Product Discovery Approach

Discover

  • Conduct research and workshops to better understand the potential target customers and their needs.
  • Put yourself in their shoes to understand what problems and unmet needs your product or service will address.

Define

  • Unpack and specify what is revealed from the empathize process.
  • Synthesize, align and prioritize what they most impactful opportunities are.
  • Define several possible minimum viable product (MVP) solutions.

Ideate

  • Using the outputs from the Empathize and Define stages, collaborate to generate multiple possible product design concept.
  • Assess the viability and feasibility of each. Collectively weigh the abilities of each possible concept to meet the target user needs and wants.
  • Select one to two product ideas to move forward to the subsequent Prototype stage.

Prototype

  • Design and build genuine, tactile expressions of the selected product ideas from the previous stage.
  • While they do not need to be fully designed, there should be enough of the idea represented that target audiences can understand, engage with, and provide feedback on the product concepts.

Evaluate & Roadmap

  • Using the prototype product design concepts as the medium, test and evaluate the concepts with representational target customers, to whatever extent is possible.
  • Leverage the product concepts and target customer feedback to craft a Product Roadmap, including the detailed product design and technical engineering execution needs. Use this as the basis for a go-to-market strategy.
